What Do You Think Of Exit Pop ups?

What are your feelings on Exit Pop Ups? Personally I can see using it maybe once to make an offer for an email address. But when you have to click on four to five of these Pop Ups just to leave the site, I find that down right irritating. The odds are usually low that a potential customer will buy on their first visit, then immediately you try to push them into a hard sell. This just goes against everything I have learned.

There are a lot of marketer’s swear by them. When I’m on a web site and just start reading and get the Pop Up in the beginning, the one that colors the whole screen and you have to stop reading to give your email address or close the box I find that irritating also. To me these things take a lot away from the beauty of shopping on the Internet. The Exit Pop Up that really gets to me is usually exit two or three that will take $10 off the price of the item. So knowing this, why would you ever purchase from a sales page.

One of the first things you learn is that people absolutely don’t like to be sold, including myself and probably the people that use these multiple Exit Pop Up tactics.

Here’s the thing, this potential customer made it to your site for a reason. It was either by using a search engine, your marketing efforts or those of an affiliate. So they already have an interest, the marketing may even have them already sold. So why would you want to basically turn the lights out on them and have this big box come floating in from the top of the screen. There on your web site, that alone usually establishes interest.

When I built my first web site for my brick and mortar business, using flash graphics or any other type of movement on a site was considered taboo. These types of things were considered a distraction to the potential customer and possibly cause them to lose interest in the reason they were there.

Now I understand the fact that the Internet is changing but I believe the basics of sales will always be the same. The type of media used may change even styles can change. It still all comes down to benefits, how well you present the many benefits that your product offers as opposed to other similar products. It is really that simple and once you accomplish that by whatever type of media you choose, be it video or sales copy you’ve done your job. These four or five Exit Pop Ups seem to be more of a deterrent to the likelihood of a customer ever returning. I have seen this Pop Up method used even on a free giveaways for a email sign up. As I said this is just my feelings about Exit Pop Ups
